Assistance with Daily Activities And Life Skills

Assistance with daily activities supports are all about helping NDIS participants learn and master the skills necessary to live an independent and autonomous life.

What does this include?

This includes a host of training activities and developmental programs, performed by the participant with assistance from their carer or carers. Through these activities the participant will learn critical skills like cleaning, cooking, using money, getting around town, and more. Below is a list of relevant skills (the list is not exhaustive):

What are Core Supports?

Core Supports enable participants to complete daily life tasks and achieve their goals, including:

  • Assistance with daily living: such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, medication assistance, and domestic support including assistance with cleaning, gardening, shopping and attending personal appointments.
  • Consumables: assisting participants to purchase items to use everyday such as incontinence aids and nutrition products.
  • Assistance with social and community participation: supporting participants to take part in social or recreational activities within their communities. This can also provide the opportunity for a supported holiday.

What are Capacity Building supports?

Capacity Building Supports enable a participant to build their independence and skills, including:
  • Support coordination: supporting a participant and their family to navigate the NDIS and better understand the possible options for their plans. For example, this support may provide insight into how the participant’s budget works.
  • Improved living arrangements: assisting a participant to find long-term accommodation. For example, by strengthening the participant’s ability to complete paper work for accommodation services and understand their obligations with rent and payments, as well as daily decision-making around planning and budgeting.
  • Finding and keeping a job: including job searching or finding an appropriate course to study, as well as support to maintain a job through assistance with selection of appropriate transport.
  • School leaver employment supports: including work experience, job site training, travel training and activities that contribute to achieving an employment outcome and linkages to ongoing employment support.
  • Improved health and wellbeing: such as assistance with exercise physiology, gym strength and personal training hydrotherapy.
  • Improved learning support: supporting the participant to transition from school to further education, skills training to improve language literacy and numeracy, support with managing academic workloads and resilience training to deal with stressful educational situations.
